How This YouTuber’s Stunt Led to His Arrest in Cambodia

A YouTuber is about to spend the next few years in prison for pulling a dumb prank.

Goodnight Chicken, a 31-year-old content creator from Taiwan, made a name for himself exploring haunted locations and live streaming eerie investigations. In 2020, while filming inside an abandoned hospital, he stumbled upon something far scarier than a ghost, the body of a man who had been missing for over a year. His discovery went viral, bringing closure to the victim’s family and catapulting Chicken into internet fame.

His audience grew rapidly, with over 100,000 YouTube subscribers and nearly 300,000 Facebook followers. But by 2024, views were slipping, and he needed something big to regain the spotlight. His idea? Fake his own kidnapping during a live stream.

He teamed up with another influencer, Lou, and they staged the whole thing in Cambodia, complete with military uniforms, fake weapons, and fake blood. During the live stream, Chicken pretended to break into a dangerous area, only to be “captured” by men in military gear. The broadcast abruptly ended, leaving his 10,000 viewers in shock. Panic spread online, and even the Cambodian government got involved, calling for help in finding the missing influencer.

But not everyone bought it. An internet sleuth known as “Gay 1069” analyzed Chicken’s escape footage and exposed inconsistencies. He discovered that Chicken wasn’t in a remote danger zone but running in circles near a beach. Soon after, Cambodian authorities raided Chicken and Lou’s hotel, uncovering their stash of fake props.

Within days, the duo was arrested, tried, and convicted. The same country they used for their viral stunt sentenced them to two years behind bars.

From chasing ghosts to chasing clout, Goodnight Chicken’s thirst for fame ended in a real-life horror story.
